What is the Alias tab?
Users are able to create an alias directory from a current directory already in STAC to keep track of directories that may be using a different name.
Why create an Alias?
The ability to make an alias is beneficial so the Relationship’s don’t get lost even if the same individual had a different name in a different cases. It allows directories to be related or linked. Both Directories will show that they have an Alias.
Users should not create an Alias to correct a misspelled name, users should edit the Directory and fixed misspelled names or compress directories that represent the same individual.
How to identify if a directory has an alias?
If a directory is an alias or has an alias, it will be represented right next to the individual’s name on every screen in STAC.
- The original Directory will be marked with (HA), which stands for “Has Alias”
- The new Directory will be marked with (AKA), which stands for “Also Known As”.
How to use the Alias tab?
The options in the alias tab include Add an alias and Undo alias.
- Add an alias of: This option allows users to create an alias to the current Directory they have selected.
- Undo Alias: Allows user to break the link between the cases and separate them back into 2 individual Directories. A user must have the Main Directory (HA) selected in order to undo the alias.
