What is the difference between User Status and Case Status?

What defines a Case and User Status?

Every case in STAC has fields for both, Case and User Status.

Both the Case Status and the User Status is always defined by an Event. The most recent event configured to change the User Status dictates what is the current value is, and to make this possible, STAC automatically recalculates the status of every case overnight in addition to recalculating the User Status as events are added to a case during the day.

What is the Case Status?

Case Status is managed by the system. Case Status can only be defined as Open or Closed.

Case Status is controlled by system events:
  1. Open: Sets Case Status to Open.
  2. Disposition: Sets Case Status to Closed.
  3. Reopen: Sets Case Status back to Open.

What is the User Status?

User Status is defined by each agency.

Agencies define:
  1. A list of possible statuses.
  2. A color associated with each status.
    1. The color is displayed in the case list view to provide quick visual status recognition.
Alert
The color should ONLY represent User Status. It is NOT recommended to use the color to indicate other information on the case. Misuse of color coding can cause confusion!
